The Doctoral School would like to extend a warm welcome to all new researchers beginning their doctorate at Sussex this Autumn, and to later-stage doctoral researchers returning to their research after the Summer vacation.
We hope that new researchers will take advantage of the many opportunities available to get involved in the diverse doctoral community at Sussex. There will be lots of opportunities to find out more, and meet other new researchers during Welcome Week for New Researchers.
Some welcome week events are now fully booked, but we’ll be making sure materials are made available online for doctoral researchers who aren’t able to attend.

If you haven’t already done so, we hope you’ll also take some time to explore our website for new doctoral researchers, which contains information and guidance to help you make the most of your time at Sussex. At this early stage, particular areas of the website which may be of interest include our advice for developing a healthy relationship with your supervisor, thinking about your training and development, building a network and looking after your wellbeing.
We also hope to see you soon at one of our Researcher Development Programme workshops, designed to help you develop your skills as a researcher, and providing opportunities for you to meet other doctoral researchers at Sussex. You can find details of some of the events coming up in October below.
We hope you have a fulfilling and successful year,
With best wishes,
The Doctoral School
